Day 5 - Friday

Today's theme is animals. The students really got involved... 😃

Sally the sloth helped Nye. We looked at evolution, adaptation, inheritance, and how all living creatures originated from the same ancestors. We even looked at how fossils can be used to help us learn more about the evolution of different species. He really enjoyed it!

Nia started off by looking at a zoo-themed word wall and recognising some of the animals in our schleich figures collection, then she wrote about her favourite animal. Nye did a sorting/matching activity to put living things with their correct environments and adapted traits.

Nia chose the quokka as her favourite animal.

Chester Zoo has been doing a virtual tour online today, posting videos of their different animal exhibits throughout the day, so we've made the most of that. We got to see red pandas, giraffes, elephants, sun bears, tigers, butterflies and penguins. Nia's favourite was the sun bears because they look like they're wearing big golden necklaces. Mum enjoyed watching the penguins swimming past the underwater camera.

Watching the red pandas.

The elephants.

One of Nia's tasks was to sort animals into categories - mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish birds and invertebrates. She got creative and used the animal figures before writing them down in the correct columns.

Then she got to work on some colouring and craft activities.

We had pancakes for lunch. They were yummy. Then Nye spent the afternoon on Minecraft. I asked him to make me a Mars Bar dispenser, so he did...

Nia finished the day off with some animal shapes. Nia could name a cube, cone, cuboid, and with Nye's help a square-based pyramid.

We've all had a good day. Nye says he learnt quite a lot about evolution. Nia loved having an animal day.
School is now closed. Let the weekend begin 😎
